Nebraska Volleyball Is Taking Over Wrigley Field — and the Volleyball World Is Losing Its Mind
Volleyball just claimed another iconic venue, and this time it’s one of the most legendary stadiums in American sports.
Nebraska announced this week that the Huskers will play Missouri outdoors at Wrigley Field — yes, the home of the Chicago Cubs — on Sunday, September 6, as part of the Big Ten/SEC Volleyball Challenge Week. Penn State will also battle Kentucky at Wrigley, bringing some of the nation’s premier programs to one of the most recognizable venues in sports. Both matches will air live on FOX.
If this sounds familiar, it’s because Nebraska has done this before. The Huskers set the world record for the largest crowd ever at a volleyball match in 2023, hosting 92,003 fans at Memorial Stadium. That moment put college volleyball on the map in a way nobody expected. Now they’re doing it again — and Wrigley Field is the stage.
The senior class of setter Bergen Reilly, outside hitter Harper Murray, middle blocker Andi Jackson, and libero Laney Choboy were all freshmen at that Memorial Stadium match. Now they’re seniors, heading into their final season, and they get to do it all over again at an even more iconic venue. The full circle energy is real.
Harper Murray’s reaction when Nebraska posted the announcement? Pure joy. And honestly, same.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on April 9, and if the Memorial Stadium sellout taught us anything, you’re going to want to move fast.
For context on just how big this is for the sport: Texas A&M shocked the volleyball world last season, ending Nebraska’s dominant run and claiming the national championship. Nebraska enters 2026 hungry, with Murray, Reilly, Jackson, and Choboy all back for one last ride. A Wrigley Field moment could be exactly the energy this team needs to fuel a title run.
College volleyball keeps finding new ways to grow, and VolleyTea will be watching. 🏐
